First of all, I must admit I am horrible at traveling by car. My husband, however, really likes it. So, we decided to road trip across the southwest USA to California. When we got to Arizona, I thought my head would explode!! It was the longest trip, not of my life, but excruciatingly painful for me. My kids were OK, though; I am the only baby of the bunch. We made it and explored the Hollywood, Beverly Hills portion of the area, and attempted to go to The Griffith Observatory, but the road was closed, so we didn't go. I discovered that the LA area is huge and takes forever to get around in. OK, I had already been in the car way tooooo long. It seemed to take over an hour to get anywhere in that town. We saw the Hollywood sign, went to Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, shopped on Melrose, and went to Malibu (those were all on different days). A lot of driving, I tell you!! We did have a great time laughing in the car. My son, who is 16, made me cry I was laughing so hard. He is a hoot!! My daughter got to be interviewed by Jay Leno for Jaywalking and we saw Calista Flockhart and her son, Liam at the zoo. We didn't see any other stars that we know of.
Then we headed to Flagstaff, AZ, which is lovely! We loved the weather, topography, and the atmosphere. We were able to visit the observatory there, and learned a thing or two about this universe. After Flagstaff, we traveled to the Grand Canyon. What a sight! It was majestic to say the least. We hiked there and just took it in. We could have stayed there and explored for weeks. Then we started home. Got to see lots of little towns in Texas, Native Americans in Arizona, and many things we found to be interesting across the Southwest. But I must say home is sweetest of all. We missed our animals, our beds, and our home. Now that this is all over, I have to shave off a few pounds. We seemed to find a Starbucks on every corner, and someone always made me drink a Venti Caramel Macchiato. Things are gonna have to change!!
I came away with an appreciation and affection for my family and my country. I am thankful!
